Today I headed down to Toronto, there’s always something going on. I went to the 41st Annual Festival of India on Centre Island. I had just missed opening ceremonies, But headed to the ferry anyway. It was hot, sweaty, and a ton of people. It took me an hour in a half to get to Centre Island. I’m not off to a good start. I finally arrived and started to take in my India experience. Dancers, vendors, and people dressed in vibrate Sari’s very pretty. This event takes place every year and of course being in the food industry, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the free vegetarian meal they were serving up. The line up for this luscious meal was three hours ( I am not that patient) so I headed to the watermelon tent…nope line up way to long. Samosa’s please…. No not going to get any of those either. So needless to say upset, hungry, and disappointed, we just enjoyed the island. We did stop at the Shopsy’s diner, I ordered a turkey club, my other friends ordered BBQ chicken on a bun,and of course a hot dog. I was really surprised, all the meals looked really thought out & presentation was appealing. I enjoyed my turkey club it was fresh, tasty, and hit the spot. As we headed home on the ferry, a couple asked me, how did you like the festival. I proceeded to tell them it was great, but I did not get to enjoy any of your cultural cuisine. After apologizing (which he really did not need to) he pulled out some traditional taste of India cookies, I was really touched but said no thank you. The gesture alone made my day.
