What a wonderful day I spent, celebrating Joseph Brant day. I was taught as few things about this great Indian Warrior, that I had no idea who Joseph Brant really was. Joseph Brant whose real native name was Thayendanegea was a Native Indian of great importance, he was a great speaker among his people, a Christian missionary, as well as a British Military Officer which he served during the British Revolution. This, of course, is a little amuse-bouche for you. If you want to learn more on this great Warrior we have a museum dedicated just to Joseph Brant which is a replica of his home he built right here in Burlington Ont.

Joseph Brant died in his house at the head of Lake Ontario (the site that would become what we know today as, the city of Burlington, Ontario) on November 24, 1807 at age 64 after a short illness. His last words, spoken to his adopted nephew John Norton, reflected his lifelong commitment to his people: “Have pity on the poor Indians. If you have any influence with the great, endeavor to use it for their good.” All this information was giving to me courtesy of the Joseph Brant Museum. I have always been fascinated by the Native Indians, their culture, traditions, and so much more. After all they were the first settlers on land.

With the Town crier and Knights of Columbus opening up the ceremonies for this great day. The Teen Tour Band took it away with the spectacular sounds of many nights of practice, the Teen Tour Band was memorizing to listen to. Doppelganger was our music for the afternoon and they rocked it, to the sounds of the 70’s 80’s & a little bit of the 90’s. Historical figures from the British Revolution army graced the grounds in full costume, as well as plenty of activities for the kids. Face painting, caricatures, artisan vendors of all kinds, splash pad, and if you wanted to take a walk on the beautiful grounds of La Salle Park & Pavillion where this event was held, you could hear the sounds of nature, and see the magnificent Burlington Marina.

As soon as the food trucks rolled up, I could not wait to sink my teeth into some wicked truck eats.

Meat Ventures is one of my favorite food trucks. The Meat Wagon is from Hamilton Ont. & he always has something new for me to try. I was served a Flip Dog a grilled sweet Filipino Longanisa sweet sausage with pineapple mint salsa, and teriyaki mayo served on a fresh bun and giant waffle fries. All the flavors of this dog were Flipping me out, it was Da-Lish.

The Creperie was making crepes of all kinds. The Mediterranean crepe was stuffed with juicy chicken breast, feta cheese, tomatoes, romaine shredded lettuce & avocado tzatziki sauce. A very healthy alternative. It was quite pleasing.

It was a historical day, filled with much to learn about a great man. I going to assume that Joseph Brant wanted what we all strive to still want even in today’s society. Peace and Tranquillity among each other.
