Up

Vegetarian…..a word not often used in my house growing up. I do however have a lot of vegetarian friends. So I feel it’s my duty as a good friend to try out vegetarian restaurants now and then, plus it’s good to be in the know. Karen Moorse owner of Boon Burger & Cafe, has taken her devotion to vegetarianism, and has offered it to the residents of Burlington Ont. So how fitting for Da Butchers Daughter to give Boon Burger & Cafe a try.

You must be very open-minded when you enter eateries such as this. It’s a very casual, rustic, & cruelty free. All products such as the hand shaped burger patties, dressings & whole wheat breads are all made in-house. With chalk board sayings on the walls, and pictures of animals threw out this animal loving establishment, it’s interesting to look at.

Now this is where Boon Burger & Cafe became distinctive. After placing our order, Karen put out a basket of toy animals on the front desk, and said “pick an animal” this is how we will know where to bring your order. We picked the turtle (Speedy was the name we gave him threw out our stay). Another very smart way to show the love of animals. My Bacun Cheeze (yes it is spelled that way) Burger had arrived and wow it looked wholesome, hearty and it was delicious.

My Boon Pattie was filled with layers of flavors, which consisted of mushrooms, brown rice, garlic, lemon juice, organic tofu, oats, basil, oregano, & salt & pepper. All these healthy ingredients in one huge Boon Pattie. On top of that, plenty of lettuce, tomatoes, spanish onion, pickles, homemade sauce, my Daiya cheese (dairy free, soy free, vegetarian cheese) hand cut fries, baked with sea salt black pepper and sesame seeds tossed on top and of course my smoky Bacun.

When asked how’s the Bacun all I could say was “It’s interesting” Again meat lovers, you cannot go into a vegetarian restaurant and expect your cuisine to taste like meat. Have the outlook of saying hey I’m going to try something new today, and I may love it. My Bacun Cheeze burger kept me full all day, who would have thought a veggie burger could taste so remarkable. We have come a long way from the basic veggie burger. Boon Burger & Cafe offers you so many options, your taste buds are sure to be satisfied.

Boon Burger & Cafe have taken their own science of being an Agriculturist and grown it into a new spin of healthy pub grub. Along with making everything from homemade recipes. Boon Burger also makes their own soft serve ice cream. This vegan coconut milk based, soy-free and sweetened with cane sugar soft serve is a sure pleaser, with a different flavor almost all the time. I had the pleasure of enjoying Passion Fruit, it was so refreshing with a hint of the coconut and not to sweet at all. I really enjoyed seeing all the different ways to use so many different sources of ingredients we grow. It’s quite informative, you see every ingredient has some sort of health benefit for you. So you learn while you enjoy some vegetarian cuisine.

Salads, Wraps, Soups, Poutine, & Pizza are some other favorites that Boon Burger & Cafe serve up. With Organic Fair Trade coffee & teas, Boon shakes, Iced Tea, Lemonade, and Organic Fair Trade Kombucha ( a fermented lightly sweetened black or green tea) your healthy choice of beverage is covered as well.

I also noticed reading through the Boon Burger Cafe’s website, and something really special was said.

It was such a warm & sunny day when I visited Boon Burger & Cafe. I decided to sit outside on the patio. I had a Boontastic day & experienced a new spin on healthy Gastro Pub Grub. Am I going to become a BOONIVORE……not yet, but you never know.

Thank you Karen and Welcome to Burlington!
