I used to have a childhood friend from Scotland, She always had the neatest little British snacks. I always remember her having shrimp chips from Marks & Spencer. As I got older I have never been able to find that weird little snack… Until I came across The British Grocer located in Burlington Ont. This British shoppe offers a unique shopping experience, it’s a Butcher Grocer & Bake shoppe. I walked in and was immediately transformed into the British way of shopping, with Scotch Pies, Beef Sausage Rolls, Bridies, Cornish Pastry Flakey, Haggis, Blood Sausage, Pork Bangers and so much more. All made on premises, as I introduced myself to a Mr. Williams owner of this British Bees’s Knees’s shoppe, he explained to me his homeland of Aberdeen Scotland, and gave me a tour of his premises which is his pride and joy, and as it should be. It was fascinating just listening to him speak about his product, and watching him tend to each client that walked in his shoppe. Like a proud Scotsman! The British Grocer also offers a huge array of British sweets, from traditional shortbread, buttons, wisp bars, & flake bars ( another treat my Scottish friend introduced me to). Mr. Williams also puts out a ramp every morning for his customers with difficulties, ( What a Gentleman). Such a great experience. I did leave with my shrimp chips, I also left with some Scotch meat pies. They were delicious.
