I love buying local ingredients, fruits, herbs, vegetables. It kinda gives me a sense of pride and I support local farmers. Michelle Bennett program co ordinator of Go Local Food Network for Burlington a non profit non partisan environmental organization. Gave me a one on one lesson on the community garden she takes much pride in. Michelle showed me how a community gets together and grows tomatoes, carrots, peas, squash and so much more. I loved the scents coming from all over the garden, I especially loved basil lane. Also how food gets donated to local food banks. Their is a special Victory garden which grows around the perimeter of the garden. There was lots of activities for kids, such as planting, colouring, and making whistles out of carrots. Whole Foods came out to show there support by bringing refreshments and fruit pies for everyone to try. It was a great learning lesson for adults and children. As local food becomes more and more popular. I hope to see more Community Gardens threw out different city’s.
