Erie Beach Hotel-Port Dover Ont.

I felt it only fitting to spend my Civic Day Holiday, by taking a day trip. I loaded up my kid crew and headed to Port Dover Ontario. Also known as the best way to see Ontario’s South Coast. With the sun shining, what a great way to see what was happening out in the Dover! The boardwalk loaded with ice cream shops, beach stores, foot long hot dogs and of course Perch. That’s what they tell me, you want the best perch head to Port Dover. The Erie Beach Hotel serves the best perch around. This Dining Hotel has been around since 1946 and let me tell you it shows. As I walked in and sat down, I felt like I was in a movie scene from Casino or The Titanic and The Erie thing about it is I Loved It. (you know me, always up for a new experience) The decor has not changed a bit since 1946. Three dining rooms fully licensed, and if your having a large party the Erie Hotel can handle it. Fresh flowers on each table and as you sit down, your greeted by six salads, I know right! I said six! Cucumber Salad, Cabbage Salad, Bean Salad, Sunshine Salad, Horseradish Salad, & a dish that consists of sweet and sour pickles, onions, carrots, radishes, celery, and pickled pumpkin. Also don’t forget the celery bread. I was thrown back by the array of old school atmosphere, the cuisine, & the nostalgic salads. With all the questions I had for our server, she was kind enough to give me the recipes. The Turkey Soup I had was creamy, and full of thick chunks of turkey. The Perch was lightly battered, fresh, and light served with homemade tartar sauce. Well worth the trip to Port Dover I would say. I have said many times, you must try new things all the time. My mother has always said everything old comes new again. With this type of resturant, I would say everyone young should try this place, just for the experience of what once was, back in the day a hot spot. Perhaps might be the next go to place in Port Dover Ontario.
