When I visit restaurants, they will either really impress me or not. The first time I took a visit to the Beaver & Bulldog in Burlington Ont. it wasn’t up to my standards of dining. So when I was asked to go back, I wanted my redemption.

As I entered, I saw a whole new branding of the Beaver & Bulldog lots of light, open concept of module furniture that can be moved around to accommodate guests & party’s, and plenty of welcoming faces. Mr. John A. MacDonald the operations supervisor & Chef Micheal Bronowicki the culinary manager of this newly branded B & B take every detail into effect. You can definitely see how these two men and their crew constantly communicate, making sure the integrity of the Beaver & Bulldog are up to standards.

The menu has been revised with international flavours, but don’t panic they still have some old-time favourites. I know looking at the menu, I couldn’t wait to start trying some dishes out. Our appetizers consisted of Lobster, Shrimp & Crab dip, this creamy dish was boasting with plenty lobster, bay shrimp,& crab in a four cheese blend served warm, with a fresh array of vegetables & warm tortilla chips. It was a rainy day when I visited the B & B, so this dish really hit the spot with its warm blend of flavours. My son also loved this dish, and if the kid loves it….you know it’s good.

The Bang Bang Shrimp came next and I love Asian inspired dishes. This delectable power packed dish was BANG on! These crispy black tiger shrimp are lightly encrusted with a panko crumb blend, lightly fried then come together in a spicy Asian lime sauce. This dish is sweet at first, but then warms your taste buds with its spicy BANG BANG!. Keeping with my Asian theme I then ordered the spicy Chicken Bao Sandwich for those who don’t know, a Bao bun is a type of steamed bun made from yeast, derived from the Asian culture it can filled with numerous delicious ingredients.

This dish featured tender grilled chicken, spiced coleslaw, cilantro diced tomato, & drizzled in a  sweet Thai chilli aioli sauce, all served in this cloudy pillow blanket of the Bao bun. The ingredients of this dish were full of Asian influence, spicy, creamy, and very light. This dish is healthy, and was very ambrosial with every bite. The Beaver & Bulldog is very kid friendly as well, I love that. With a kids menu & coloring to keep children entertained. A pizza served on Nann bread was perfect for tiny mouths.

Now we had to get down to business, and the slow cooked Rib-Eh-Lets were next to try. A full pound of slow cooked Canadian baby back rib tails. We call them “Button Bones” in my business. I know what your thinking Yikes! Rib tails don’t knock it. There is plenty of meat on these baby back rib tails. These fall off the bone ribs have a process to go through, before they even make it to my mouth. The B & B slow cook these baby backs for about three hours, then off to the grill, & then a light touch of BBQ sauce. MMMM! I want my baby back, baby back, baby back ribs.

So when I tell you I wanted my redemption, I defiantly received it going back to the Beaver and the Bulldog. With an indoor or outdoor patio view to enjoy the Burlington Lakeshore. I must tell you don’t forget to order a drink, the B & B have a large variety of specialty beverages. I had the White Peach Sangria which had peach schnapps, pineapple juice, sprite, and White Zinfandel. It was refreshing and is a staple on the B & B beverage menu.

The Beaver & Bulldog was once known for being just a pub. It has now transformed itself into being a neighbourhood staple. Great atmosphere, great service, and fantastic cuisine. Where everybody is welcome whatever the occasion. The Beaver & Bulldog now has my approval as being one of Burlington’s best Pub Grub Hubs to visit.

Thank you for a most pleasing visit John & Chef Michael & Staff
