I went for dinner this weekend to the Beaver and Bulldog in Burlington. As a food writer, you either get a hit or miss when you choose the restaurant to have your meal in. I received a miss! This restaurant lacked service,taste,and overall dining experience. I have said many times before,people work hard,and when they choose somewhere to go to eat. They are looking for the whole package. I entered this restaurant and the overall presence was very drab!. The servers looked like they did not want to be there. We were seated and I headed to the restroom,on my walk there a server said to me Thank you come again! I responded I just got here.The restrooms are very small,and there are no change tables. Where are you suppose to change your child. When choosing to be in the restaurant & hospitality business,you must be on your game at all times. After ordering and receiving our meals, I was disappointed. I ordered a kids burger,which was huge,my son would have never eaten the whole thing (a bit of a waste of food and money). Mike ordered fish and chips and was pleased. My colleague ordered a burger, it was extremely well done (we were not even asked how we wanted the burger cooked) all of our French fries were cold and soggy. I ordered a grilled chicken which was dry, with mango sauce,the dish came with unseasoned vegetables and plain white bland rice,I don’t remember ordering a diet dish. The chef was either in a bad mood,or just doesn’t care about the food he lets out of his kitchen anymore. The whole atmosphere for my dining experience was a let down. We had asked for dessert menus,and our server brought one menu. After asking her why do we get only one menu,she responded we don’t have enough, and did not even look us in the eyes as she spoke,a very big deal to me. The manager came over,after and asked what he could do to make the dining experience more pleasurable for us. I kindly responded nothing, just the bill please. He gave us some gift certificates for our next visit. It’s not the point of getting something for free. It’s about letting restaurateurs know what they are doing wrong and fix it, and also what they are doing correct to praise them. I do believe in second chances and perhaps I will try the Beaver and Bulldog again,but for now I think I will keep my distance.
